Hoe Down!

Today was so much fun. The weather was actually really nice today so we spent some time outside.

Random picture, but I actually had made a dress for Hadley to wear for St. Patrick's Day. We were in Branson and I totally forgot to pack the dress. =( Well, my mom wanted a picture of her in it anyway. It turned out kinda cute so I thought I'd post it.

Rock in the shoe, boo!

Andrew is taking an elective Rural Health class this semester and tonight the Rural Health Club had a get together. It was a HOE DOWN!! They had BBQ and a mechanical bull.

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

Here's what I'm loving:

I'm loving how much Hadley is enjoying playing in her play area even if it is 40* outside.
I'm also loving how she enjoys laying in the gravel almost as much as she does playing.

I'm loving that today when I told Hadley, "I love you" she replied back, "I know." It was SOOO sweet!!!

I'm loving that when I called Safety 1st and told them the slipcover on Hadley's car seat was doing this they sent my a new one free and I had it by the end of the week!!

I'm loving how much Hadley loved the bubble machine we broke out the other day.

I'm loving that today Hadley took out her bow and requested to wear the tiara she got at the princess party over the weekend.

I'm loving these cupcake toppers I finished today for a friend who's hosting a cookout wedding shower.

I'm loving that right now I have a date with my hubby on the couch to watch Black Swan.

What are you loving?

Shakin' Bakin' Tuesday!!

Strawberry Tea Cups

Ingredients:
Strawberry cake mix, cones, decorative icing tube, m&ms, shortbread cookies, gummy ring candy, strawberries
(Not pictured: butter cream icing)

Hadley putting the strawberries into the processor.

Make cake mix as directed.
(I added fresh strawberries for an extra pizazz.)

Lay out your cones in a cupcake pan or cake pan, fill 2/3 full of batter and bake at 350* for 25 to 30 minutes.

Icing:
I combined butter cream, red food dye and mashed strawberries

After baking cut the bottom off your cone.

Use decorative icing as glue and attach to cookie.

Half your gummy candy rings.

Again, use decorative icing as glue and attach to cone. Then, ice the top with strawberry icing.

I left the sprinkles and m&ms to Hadley and Andrew.

Andrew enjoying a sip of yummy strawberry bliss after a long day of school.

YUM!

Med-School Tip Monday

SO tonight I was sitting here thinking there may be people out there who are currently going through med school with a significant other or who may be in the near future and thought this could be helpful. I am by NO means trying to say I know a whole lot about this, I'm only a first year but I have picked up a few things.

Today's Tip:
"Med Student Time"
I want to start by saying, Andrew does such a wonderful job making time to spend with Hadley and I and we both really appreciate the effort. However some good pointers to keep in mind when living with a med student:
  • Always expect them not to be able to go to things. This might sound bad, but just hear me out. Its so much more enjoyable when you think they won't be able to make it to something and then they end up being there, rather than planning on them being there and something else (studying) comes up and you're left feeling disappointed they missed it. And believe me they feel bad too.
  • Its a two way street!!! They spend a lot of time up at school studying and many times are so stressed and its a nice surprise to them too when you show up with lunch or a study break snack. Hadley and I have some other friends this semester that we go up with, but last semester we would go just the two of us every Wednesday and have lunch.
  • Remember this is only 4 years of the rest of your life. Again I know I'm only a year in and I pray I will still feel like this in year 4 but its true. I try to think of things that happened 4 years ago and they seem like just a short time ago.
  • Always, always, always make the most of the time you have!!! It comes few and far between so take advantage when its there. When Andrew first started he chose a day in which he didn't study outside of school and that is our family day. And although it doesn't always work out to where he can "take off from studying"(refer to #1) I love it and look forward to it every week!!
The first year of med school hasn't been a rough as I expected it to be and I think its because I had someone let me in on these helpful tips.

Weekend Update

This was a very busy weekend. My parents came in Thursday night to spend a couple days putting together a play area in the backyard for the Hadster.

FRIDAY
Hadley, Mimi and I met up with all our playgroup friends at Bounce U for a date that morning.
There were obstacle courses...
Babies...
and slides!!

When we got back home that afternoon Pap-pa had already finished most of the frame.
Hadley noticed a couple screws missing so she helped Pap-pa out.
And gave Daddy a few pointers too.
After placing those last few screws we all went to Tally's for lunch and Hadley came back for some beauty rest to prepare for her princess party that night.

When she woke up we got all decked out for the party from the tiara all the way to light up princess shoes and earrings (clip-ons of course).

When we got to the party they had a table of knight's gear for all the boys to put on. Andrew decided to partake since he had forgotten his costume, ha!

The Birthday Princess opening her presents!

They had a JumpJump set up for the kids, which is where Hadley spent most of the party.

Hadley sitting on the throne.
(What a face, right?)

When we got home from the party Hadley wanted to play outside for a bit but it was starting to get cold. We put on a fleece and hat and she had a blast playing in one of the big boxes from her new toys with Mimi.

SATURDAY
We drove to several different places looking for something to fill the pit with and finally decided on gravel. We wanted to do rubber but it was pretty expensive especially for the amount we needed and the lady at one place said in the summer when it gets to be 107* the rubber gets REALLY hot and smells bad.

Mimi putting the telescope on the climber/slide.
(In case you couldn't tell the weather was significantly colder Saturday than Friday, hints the scarf around the face.)

Also on Saturday one of my besties, Kristin, came into town and she also helped with Hadley's play area.

Everybody walking around the cool ledge dad put on the edge for the kids to sit on.

The big reveal!!
As soon as I opened the door and Hadley looked out she said, "Whoa...."
Thank you Mimi and Pap-pa for the AWESOME play area!!!!

SUNDAY
This morning we went to church and headed to lunch at Fish Daddy's with Mike and Kristin before they headed back home. This was my first experience at Fish Daddy's and I'll have to say its really good. I got Hawaiian Chicken and it was delicious!!! Well, I'm actually going to attempt a Sunday afternoon nap, wish me luck!
